Crowdfunding Corner: Magus modular synth kit, Cabot percussion robot, Flower Pedals, Neova connected ring, (arches) universal interface

In our Crowdfunding Corner monthly feature, we highlight the latest MI and audio projects looking for support to bring their ideas to life.

Check out this month’s selection of crowdfunded gear hoping to make a splash in the industry:

Magus Modular Synthesizer Toolkit

“The Magus is like having a compact modular synthesizer without being limited by the modules you’ve got in it.

“Unlike traditional synthesizers, the Magus doesn’t confine itself to a fixed function or paradigm. Whether you want granular, additive, FM, subtractive, spectral, chaotic or stochastic synthesis, Magus gives you the freedom to pick the right algorithm for the job and then lets you loose to patch up a storm.

“If our existing library of algorithms doesn’t do it for you, you can even create your own, for truly unbounded creative freedom. And you can use any one of more than two hundred patches from our library as a starting point. Patches can be authored in Max Gen, Pure data, FAUST or C++, giving you an impressive range of powerful musical programming tools to choose from.”

Cabot Smart Percussion Robot

“Make your sessions tight! Jamming with Cabot is easy. Your performance is jacked up a notch with pumping, natural rhythm. Attach it to a cajon and activate it by smartphone with our app. Your music is instantly elevated to a whole new realm as you jam together in perfect time with YOU directing the flow. A completely cool and fun jamming experience!

“Cabot’s 3 arms physically strike the cajon sending natural, acoustic sound waves out into the room. The bass thuds and the snare cracks. You and your audience feel it in your gut! It’s a universe away from digital percussion.
“Cabot’s steady, solid rhythm provides perfect accompaniment to music across all genres. It blends with almost any instrument bringing a new vibe and energy to a session. It kills as a rapper’s beatbox!”

Flower Pedals Guitar Effects Pedals

“The electric guitar is one of, if not the most versatile musical instrument. This is in no small part due to the wonderful vast garden of effects pedals. Flower Pedals was started by electrical engineer and avid guitarist, Matt Kauffman to plant some new and original seeds in that garden.

“We don’t plant our flowers in just any old dirt, we use high quality soil. Rather than using standard triple pole footswitches, we use relays and soft touch footswitches (except for in mini pedals, due to size constraints). Relays last longer than mechanical switches, and also allow for silent switching. We also use surface mount components, which have lower tolerances, smaller footprints, and are more reliable.

“We are launching with 4 different designs, the Dandelion Tremolo, the Geranium Germanium Drive, the Poppy Clean Boost, and the Lupine Analog Octave Up.”

Neova Connected Ring For Musicians

“Neova is a connected ring that identifies extremely natural hand gestures and faithfully interprets each subtlety into musical expression. This MIDI controller can be freely assigned to any effect from your DAW or hardware synthesizer. It results in a purposeful tool enabling new forms of creativity.

“Neova is composed of two elements: A ring used to capture movements, A hub that connects to your computer via USB. The whole is natively recognized as a MIDI controller by your computer and interfaces with every major DAW. Neova identifies specific gestures using 9 motion sensors embedded in the ring. Since it is a MIDI controller, every gesture can independently be assigned to any parameter of your DAW or your Plugins. The only limitation is your imagination.

“For a complete experience, we also developed Plume. This Plugin has been designed specifically for the ring and encases hundreds of sound presets natively mapped with the ring. It can also be used to encase others’ plugins and save a dedicated configuration.”

(arches) Tactile Universal Interface

“Blending inspiration, power and ease of use, we created the perfect evolution of the concept of tactile controller. Built on the foundation of our first class touch interfaces (LS1lightstrip and LP1lightplane), found today on thousands of eurorack systems around the world, we designed a beautiful work of art and technology.

“(arches) put a never seen before set of controllers at your fingertips. Sliders, lightstrips (with rec/loop capabilities), lightplanes/thumbpads with z-axis sensitivity and a row of pressure sensitive buttons.

“Behind those state of the art touch controllers lies a high-speed microcontroller that joins the elements to create keyboards, sequencers, arpeggiators and, finally, your perfect performance setup.”
