Audient has teamed up with producer and songwriter Jake Gosling to share insights into his unique experience of writing songs.
In a new video filmed at his Sticky Studios in Surrey, Gosling talks about expressing yourself, capturing ideas, collaboration, when is a song finished, and how long the process should take.
With a long list of credits including working with Shawn Mendes, Ed Sheeran and Shania Twain, Gosling tips will be a valuable insight for budding songwriters to help with their creative process.
Designed as rewarding content to appeal to a wider audience, Gosling waxes lyrical about how he harnesses his own inspiration, explaining that “creative ideas will hit you in the middle of the night, first thing in the morning or when you’re talking to someone,” and shares tips as to how to log these thoughts, to be able to refer back to them at a later date, when inspiration may be more elusive.
He also chats about the benefits of collaboration, which he finds can ease the writing experience significantly. He describes his two-day process in order to consider what a song is about and give himself the time to “live with it a little bit.” Conversely, he highlights the drawbacks of spending too long on a song and discusses the concept of knowing when the song is finished.
