Berklee Online opens applications for first Master’s Degree program

Berklee Online has announced that applications are now open for its first Master’s Degree program. The school has also released the course list and a video series for the program.

Berklee College of Music in Boston launched Berklee Online in 2002 as an online option for attending their illustrious classes, and over the past 15 years has evolved from offering award-winning virtual music courses to certificate programs to an undergraduate degree.

Berklee Online is now the world’s largest online music school, teaching more than 11,000 students a year through its online degree and non-degree programs.

After the recent announcement that Berklee Online will be launching its first online master’s degree programs, the school has returned with the news that applications for the program are now open.

The inaugural class will begin in September 2018 and will give students the chance to earn their master’s degree with Berklee Online in two key areas: Master of Music in Music Production and Master of Arts in Music Business.

In addition to opening the application, Berklee Online has also unveiled the course list and detailed information for both programs and released videos to highlight each one. The Music Business overview video features John P. Kellogg, Esq. handling the program overview with Enrique Gonzalez Müller handling the honors for the Music Production overview video.

With the Master of Music in Music Production, students will learn about the most creative and innovative music production techniques and the power of the latest DAW-based technology. This will include courses like Commercial Vocal Production, Critical Analysis of Music Production Techniques, Advanced Sound Mixing Techniques, Audio/Music Production for Visual Media, Business of Independent Music Production, Creative Recording Techniques in Music Production, and more.

The Master of Arts in Music Business will give students the chance to be a leader in the growth and success of the evolving music business in key market segments. This will include courses like Music Business Revenue Streams, The Business of Music Marketing, Data Analytics in the Music Business, Music Business Finance for Entrepreneurs, Music Business Law, Artist Management in the Music Business, Music Business Management and Leadership, and more.

These programs consist of 12 courses (36 credits) that can be completed within one year. In keeping pace with the same flexibility that Berklee Online is known for, students have the option to start in any semester during the academic year and will get the chance to have direct interactions with Berklee faculty and fellow students through their learning management system. Part of each program is a culminating experience, which could be developing a marketing plan or creating an EP that is fully completed and ready to be distributed to the world.

“This is a chance for students to spend a year doing everything they love and hone their knowledge and skills to advance their career in the music industry,” said Berklee Vice President of Online Education Carin Nuernberg.”

Students will learn from world-renowned faculty in an interactive, collaborative course environment while forging connections with a network of talented industry professionals from around the globe. We couldn’t be more excited for students to apply and for the program to launch.”

The master’s degree program will continue with Berklee Online’s cost-effective, high-quality breadth of offerings, and will give students the chance to earn their degree for a total cost of $33,695 (tuition and fees included), which is roughly 20 percent less than the cost of an in-person degree.
